I am currently studying for an MSc in Consciousness, Spirituality and Transpersonal Psychology, building on a BSc (Hons) in Mental Health Nursing. My professional background spans acute and rehabilitation settings across both psychiatric and general hospital environments, as well as experience in forensic nursing on locked wards. Throughout my nursing career, I encountered numerous phenomena that challenged conventional clinical frameworks, such as terminal lucidity, near-death experiences, and other anomalous experiences reported by patients. These encounters sparked a deep curiosity about the nature of consciousness and the limits of current biomedical models.
My decision to pursue postgraduate study in consciousness and transpersonal psychology arises from a desire to understand these experiences more fully and to integrate scientific, psychological, and spiritual perspectives. The MSc has provided a meaningful framework for exploring the nature of reality, human transformation, and the deeper dimensions of healing, enabling me to integrate my clinical background with my longstanding interest in spirituality and inner development.

I have been self-employed since the age of seventeen, entering directly into the business I continue to run today, one that has evolved significantly over the years and has given me a strong, practical understanding of business, adaptability, and independent leadership. Alongside my professional life, I have nurtured a longstanding fascination with botany and plant medicines, as well as the cultures and traditions that give rise to these healing practices. I believe that natural substances, when approached legally, respectfully, and with informed care, hold meaningful potential to support human well-being.
I am also deeply interested in unexplained phenomena and the mysteries of human experience. This curiosity naturally extends into philosophy, where I find particular resonance with Alan Watts's explorations of consciousness, identity, and the nature of reality. Together, these interests shape a worldview rooted in inquiry, open-mindedness, and a desire to understand the deeper patterns that underlie life and experience.

I have always loved writing, ever since I was a child. I have had an interest in magick, the occult, and esoterica for as long as I can remember. Leaving school, I fell in with a bad crowd, which led me into a life of crime and violence. I lost 12 years of my life to addiction until I overdosed in 2003 and had a near-death experience. During this experience, I had a life review, in which I relived every thought, word, and deed of my whole life from the perspective of the other people involved. This was both a disturbing and humbling experience. It propelled me to get clean from drugs, and I then embarked on a five-year period of intense work with a spiritual healer to tackle the trauma that has impacted me, as well as some of the more problematic aspects of my personality. I went back to college, having left school with no GCSEs and obtained a BA (Hons) in Media, Photography and Video Production. Twenty-three years after my NDE, I now work for a local council managing their websites and live near Bath with my amazing wife, two step-daughters, two cats, and the dog. I am Studying an MSc in Consciousness, Spirituality and Transpersonal Psychology through the Alef Trust. I am also part of a distance-healing group through the College of Healing and the UK Shamanic Journey and Healing Circle.

Morgan is an interdisciplinary scientist and artist whose work bridges clinical chemistry, biomedicine, and artificial intelligence. He holds an MSc in Clinical Chemistry and a BSc in Biomedicine, with formal training across both theoretical science and laboratory research. His scientific background includes rigorous analytical practice, clinical diagnostics, and experimental methodology.
Alongside his biomedical career, Morgan currently works in the training and development of artificial intelligence models, operating at the frontier where human cognition and machine learning intersect. His unique perspective allows him to interrogate intelligence, pattern recognition, and perception from both biological and computational standpoints.
In parallel, Morgan is a classically trained artist, with a practice informed equally by scientific precision and imaginative exploration. This rare synthesis of scientific discipline and artistic intuition shapes his interdisciplinary approach to research, philosophy, and creative inquiry. His work is driven by an interest in consciousness, systems, and the evolving relationship between humans and emerging technologies.

Alex Montalvo is a writer interested in the intersections of science, consciousness, and culture.
